Perl : time multiplier ?

Hello,

I found this five years old post listing (interpreted/bytecoded) languages that have a multiplier for time limits. I cannot see Perl in that list.

Blog post on time multipliers

I have tried, with Perl, the first four problems of the May contest; but except for the first two, I hit the Time Limit, even after a lot of profiling and tweaking, that divided the original execution time by 10 to 100 (on my own test cases). Nobody else seemed to have succeeded so far either (well, very few have tried :-) ). If Perl gets the same time limit as a compiled language, I too can stop trying because I will never make it.
